Match Reports

Sunday March 30th 2008

Chipping Sodbury 49 - Wiveliscombe 22

Give yourselves a huge pat on the back, holding and competing against a heavy/strong Sodbury side with the advantage of rolling subs (fresh legs).  With thundering runs from Dixie (Man of match) and good strong play from the pack, we went in half time 27-22 (With tries from Chrissi Curno, Naomi Leech, Sophie Wickins and Kirsty Bawden).  Unfortunately we lost Sophie at half time with a head injury and she thought she was 50 miles up the motorway!@*!?  Hope your feeling better mate.  The team kept grafting in the second half but couldn't hold Sodbury, Wivey were unlucky not to score in the second half, but failed to add to the half time score.

Special thanks to Naomi Leech (back after 9 months), Emily Greenway (1st game for 2 seasons).  Well done guys, you were the difference between playing and cancelling.  Thanks to Heather for playing out of position, you did a great job at 9.

Try:  Chrissi Curno, Naomi Leech, Sophie Wickins & Kirsty Bawden
Conv: Rachael Sharland x 1

Thanks EVERYONE who played on Sunday, you were ALL fantastic!

Wivey Ladies 12   Bridgwater Ladies 22 - (game abandoned after apprx 45 mins)

Wiveliscombe Ladies had a strong side to face Bridgwater at Plain Pond on Sunday, with experienced Bev Norman and Tania Govier back in the squad.

Unfortunately Bridgwater arrived with only 11 players and opted to play 10 a side with rolling subs, this unbalanced Wivey who took a little time to adjust.

Wivey started strong and the pack dominated with Emma Richards, Beth Smith and Sophie Wickins making some good ground, Bridgwater scored a couple run away tries and Wivey replied with a try by Tania Govier who finished off some good work by the pack, Kirsty Bawden converted, Bridgwater scored another 2 tries with some fine running by their three quarters before half time going in half time 22-7 up.

Wivey started the half on top again forcing Bridgwater back and were rewarded again by with a try by Tania Govier.

Wivey had a firm grip on the game before the game was unfortunately stopped by the referee following some ill discipline by players and finally the Bridgwater coach.

Wivey will gain confidence after this game and look forward to the challenge of playing Bridgwater away in 3 weeks.
